NEUROMUSCULAR DENTISTRY
Supplementing his general and aesthetic dentistry expertise, Dr.
Stone is fully qualified in neuromuscular dentistry that focuses
on relaxing the muscles of the jaw in order to find the patient’s
true bite. Neuromuscular dentistry differs from traditional dentistry
in that the emphasis is placed upon the activity of the muscles
that move the jaw.
Common symptoms that occur when teeth, jaws and muscles are in conflict
include headaches, clenching or grinding, pain or clicking and popping
in joints, shoulder, neck and back pain, facial pain, ringing or
congestion in the ears or pain behind the eyes. If you are experiencing
any of these symptoms it may be Temporomandibular (jaw) disorders,
also called "TMD" or "TMJ syndrome." Please
contact our office for a thorough evaluation.
Our treatment for such problems is based on an accurate diagnosis
using state-of-the-art, computerized, diagnostic equipment. The
treatment is non-invasive and typically involves neuromuscular positioning.
This treatment involves the use of customized mouthpieces called
orthotics to obtain a comfortable position for the lower jaw. Once
this jaw position is found and the TMJ problem is under control,
long term stabilization is accomplished and maintenance treatment
will then be discussed in detail with our patients.
PERIODONTAL TREATMENTS
Our qualified team of hygienists offers scaling, cleaning and curettage procedures vital for aggressive treatment of periodontal disease. Our goals of treatment are to arrest and control the progress of the disease, to leave the periodontal tissues in an easily maintainable state and if possible, to restore the supporting structures, which include bone, gum tissue and ligaments. Following these procedures, our hygienists will work in concert with our periodontal patients to clean and maintain the health of their teeth and gums on a three-month cycle.
IMPLANT DENTISTRY
Dental implants can be thought of as artifical roots onto which teeth or prosthetic connectors can be placed. Placement and restoration of dental implants is now a fairly routine procedure, but all phases of dental implantology require experience, skill and exacting techniques. Following implant surgery which is typically done by a periodontist or oral surgeon, Dr. Stone offers completion of the final phase which is restoration, placing the teeth or attachments on the implants. Recognizing the criticality of selecting the correct color of implants for his patients, Dr. Stone takes all aspects of a patient into consideration; including his or her complexion, hair color, color of the natural teeth and eye color when completing this vital phase.
